The UFI Neighborfood Ecosystem focuses on growing food in the Fairfield neighborhood of Huntington, West Virginia.  Fairfield is a food desert/apartheid with low access to transportation and more than 2 miles to a grocery store and numerous convenience stores/fast food sources.

This initiative is committed to supporting food system resilience by investing in infrastructure and the capacity of urban growers with various experience levels.

Community residents can access food from a network of community gardens located in the neighborhood, where they can also learn to grow and safely harvest fruit and vegetables.  They can also learn safe food handling, preparation and storage of foods in the Food Aggregation Hub, Healthy Food Center and Hands-on Learning Center in the Unlimited Future Incubator at 1650 8th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25703.

This two-year project, which began in October 2022, was funded in part by the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington, the Coalfield Development Corperation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
